Terms of Service

The rules of the club, in plain language.

These terms govern your membership of Kampong Social Club and your use of the Kampong website and iOS app. By applying for membership or using the service, you agree to them.

The service is operated by Hanso Pte. Ltd. (UEN 201937629R), 1 Phillip Street, #09-00 Royal One Phillip, Singapore 048692 — "we", "us", "Kampong". Full company details are on the legal notice.

1. Membership

Kampong Social Club is a private membership community. Membership is by application and is granted at our discretion. Applying does not entitle you to membership, and we are not obliged to give reasons for a decision.

You must be at least 18 years old to apply. You must give accurate information about yourself when you apply and keep it up to date. One person, one account — accounts may not be shared, sold or transferred.

Membership status may be applicant, approved, invited or declined. Most features — signing up for events, requesting stays, seeing other members — require an approved membership.

2. Code of conduct

Membership is conditional on following the code of conduct, which forms part of these terms. It applies at events, in stays, in the community spaces, and in any communication with other members.

3. Events and tickets

Events are organised by Kampong or by members. Where an event has a ticket price, your place is confirmed once payment has been received. Where an event is full, you may be placed on a waitlist and offered a place if one is released.

Cancellation and refund terms are shown on each event before you book. If we cancel an event, you receive a full refund of what you paid for it. We are not responsible for travel or accommodation you arrange around an event.

Some events and ticket types are restricted to particular membership tiers. Attending an event may mean appearing on an attendee list visible to other approved members.

4. Stays

Members may offer accommodation to other members, and may request to stay with them. Kampong provides the platform for this. The agreement to host and to stay is between the two members — we are not the host, not an agent of the host, and not a party to it.

Hosts are responsible for the accuracy of their listing, for the condition and legality of what they offer, and for any permissions their tenancy, building, insurer or local law requires. Guests are responsible for treating a home as they would want theirs treated.

We do not inspect, endorse or guarantee any listing, and we do not verify that a host is entitled to offer it. Use your judgement, as you would with any invitation into someone's home.

5. Nights

Nights are a community credit earned by hosting other members. They can be spent on stays with other members who accept them.

Nights cannot be bought, sold, exchanged for money, or transferred outside the platform, and they have no cash value. They are not a currency, not a security, and not a stored-value instrument. They are earned by taking part, and that is the only way to get them. If your membership ends, any Nights balance ends with it.

6. Payments

Payments for tickets and for accommodation are handled by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details. Prices are shown inclusive of applicable tax unless stated otherwise, and the currency is shown at checkout.

Where a payment is taken for a real-world service — a ticket to an event, a stay in a home — it is a payment for that service and is handled outside the App Store. Nothing in the app is a digital good or an in-app purchase.

7. Communication services

Approved members may be given a Kampong e-mail address, a chat account and a social account on services we operate. These are a convenience, not the product.

You may use your own e-mail address, chat account and social account instead. If you do, we suspend the Kampong equivalents and forward anything that arrives for you, so nothing is lost. Before we send anything to an address or handle you have given us, we confirm that you control it.

Everything else in Kampong — applying, events, stays, bookings, payments — works whether or not you use any of these services.

8. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post: your profile, your photos, your listings, your messages. You grant us the permission we need to store and display it in order to run the service, and nothing wider than that. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train anything.

Do not post what is not yours to post, and do not post anything unlawful. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the code of conduct.

9. Location

The app can share your approximate location so that other members can see who is nearby and so we can tell you about events near you. This is optional, it is coarse rather than precise, and you can turn it off at any time in the app or in iOS settings. Exact addresses of stays are shown only once a booking is confirmed.

10. Ending membership

You may leave at any time and delete your account from the app or from your account settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, your content and the communication accounts created for you. Records we are required to keep — for example, transaction records for tax purposes — are kept for as long as the law requires.

We may suspend or end a membership that breaks these terms or the code of conduct, or where a member's conduct makes the community unsafe. Where we do, we refund what has been paid for anything not yet delivered.

11. Availability and liability

We try to keep the service running and correct, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. It is provided as it is.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for what members do or fail to do for one another, or for anything that happens at an event or in a stay arranged through the platform. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

12. Changes

We may change these terms. Where a change materially affects your membership, we will tell you before it takes effect, through whichever channel you have asked us to use. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction. If you deal with us as a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove protections you have under the law of the country you live in.
